Results from the urban biodiversity inventory BioSCAN (Biodiversity Science, City and Nature): the Phoridae (Insecta: Diptera)

BioSCAN is a community science (=citizen science) project in which we have been collecting insects using Malaise traps in backyards, gardens, and public spaces in the greater Los Angeles area since 2012.
On this site, we list the species of phorid flies that we have encountered in Los Angeles, by site and by species. Users can search for a species list for a given BioSCAN site, see a map of the sites where any Los Angeles phorid was collected, and (in preparation) get more information for each species (warning: not much is known about these flies), as well as a photo of each.
BioSCAN is currently in its fourth year (phase IV). The various subprojects are as follows:
